Glossary

The words you meet while building and launching a site, each explained in a sentence or two.

Building#

  • Page: one HTML file of your site. See "Pages and components".
  • Component: a block such as a header, written once and placed on many pages.
  • Design token: a named value such as the brand colour, defined once and used everywhere. See "What are design tokens?".
  • CMS: where content such as blog posts lives, so it can be edited without touching the page code.
  • Collection and entry: in the CMS, a collection is a type of content (posts, team members) and an entry is one item in it.
  • Metadata: the title and description search engines and link previews show for a page.

Checking#

  • Scan: an automatic check of one part of the site, such as accessibility, links or SEO.
  • Get Ready checklist: the ordered list of what stands between your site and launch, under Checks in the editor.
  • Contrast: how far text stands out from its background. Too little is hard to read.

Publishing and launching#

  • Staging link: the review address of your site, such as your-project.weblooks.site.
  • Publish: put the current site on the staging link. See "Publishing and releasing".
  • Release: put a published version on your own domain.
  • Custom domain: your own address, such as yourcompany.com.
  • DNS: the public directory that tells browsers where a domain lives. See "Domains and DNS".
  • DNS record: one entry in that directory, such as a CNAME or an A record.
  • SSL certificate: what gives your site the padlock and https://. Weblooks handles it for you.

Working with others#

  • Client portal: the page where a client reviews the project, its readiness and comments.
  • Handoff: the step that hands a finished site to your client, with a maintenance guide and a report.
  • Sync: the paid plan that adds the cloud, collaboration, publishing and hosting.
  • MCP: the standard way AI apps such as Claude connect to Weblooks to work on your site.
